Pico Cão Grande Excursion: face to face with São Tomé's giant
The Pico Cão Grande excursion is one of the island's most impressive experiences for lovers of dramatic landscapes and adventure. Rising more than 600 metres, this striking volcanic monolith covered in vegetation and frequently shrouded in mist has become one of the great natural symbols of São Tomé and Príncipe.
The drive passes through Emolve to the starting point of the hike. From there, the trail continues entirely through the forest, with several opportunities to see Pico Cão Grande along the way. At the base, its almost vertical face rises like a huge wall of rock. Climbing the peak is technically demanding and only suitable for professional climbers.
Transport is not included in the price. The starting point is Emolve, although it is also possible to meet the guide in the city and travel there together.
